Newcastle 2 QPR 2 – Wednesday 1 February 2017 7.45pm
We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle:
“I fear that this might cost us.
“Poor first half where QPR deserved their equaliser but better value from NUFC second half, undone by Perez’ poor decision making from our best chances and a terrible freak own goal from Clark.
“The response will probably be more hysterical than our position merits but we need to improve drastically on the standards of performance in the make or break run of tricky games that come this month.”
“Total lack of desire to kill teams off.
“Why we persist with Perez is a mystery and it’s about time the captain earned his title.”
“Blistering start to game was followed by a performance littered with mistakes and players getting caught dwelling on the ball.
“That said we had enough chances in the 2nd half to put the game to bed, Perez & Gouffran wasting great chances. Punished.
“Glad the next game comes around quickly to hopefully put right a few wrongs.”
“A convincing win after an unconvincing start.
“When you look at the bench you’d think Rafa would want to strengthen, so fingers crossed that we see some activity.
“Back top of the league though, you’ve got to be satisfied with that!”
“Complacent performance all round, summed up by the arrival of Sammy Ameobi after 65 minutes.
“Yesterday we were talking about signing Andros Townsend, today we brought on Sammy Ameobi. “It’s a tough gig supporting this club sometimes.
“We did not look like a team bound for the PL today.
“That we were a last minute own goal away from winning shows how easy this league should be. Everyone at NUFC has to do better than this. Much, much better than this.”
Leazes Park Ender:
“It’s important to remain positive as there is still a fair way to go this season, but clearly that performance tonight has been a worry.
“A worry certainly if manager and players can’t up their performance levels. A clutch of sides are breathing down the NUFC neck and we’ve leaked two more points tonight.
“People were below par, some poor refereeing and Perez totally profligacy in front of goal has cost us.
“Not good. Not good at all.
“The positive side is we have to go again and try and get this back on track.”
“Where to begin with that.
“There is something extremely wrong with our football club right now.
“What’s it gonna take for Rafa, the players and the fans to wake up? Drop to 3rd place?
“We should be desperate to gain promotion asap, not sleepwalk to the play-offs.
“We missed chances to kill the game at 2-1 but that shouldn’t distract from how pathetic that performance was. If we had half the fight Brighton, Leeds & Reading have, we would be 10 points clear at the top.
“Rafa had to answer the same question; why is he insisting with Gouffran & Ritchie out wide with Perez no.10?
“We have no width as everything is play to feet and cut inside. We never get in behind teams.
“How to make life difficult.
“Don’t take chances, press self-destruct, let other teams around us breathe out.
“Howay lads; this promotion won’t just turn up like an Ayoze Perez wasted chance.”
“We cannot escape from just how desperately bad we were tonight in the first half.
“We were an absolute shambles from front to back. I would really struggle to spare one of them their blushes.
“But twisting and moaning isn’t going to help ease the sickness caused by that showing.
“Strange that we rest nine men to concentrate on the league but yet look like they’ve just rolled out of the boozer.
“That first half has took a bite out of my mojo, in fact it ate the lot.
“I feel sorry for Clark who was brave and certainly not the worst of a terrible defensive performance tonight. Our skipper moved like the tin man from the Wizard of Oz with nee oil.
“Time to galvanize and buck the f*** up, as much tougher games await and Rafa’s boys need to be locked in a room and forced to watch that first half on repeat, with eyelids pinned ajar like in a clockwork orange as punishment.
“No time for Champagne Charlie bollocks, sort ya’sels out.”
“Perez has cost us big time and to actually blame Ritchie for his own sh*t ball into him is just unbelievable!!
“Would take second in the league now because I just can’t see how we gonna finish up in top 2 on that tonight.
“Badly missing Gayle.
“Perez couldn’t finish my dinner. Shocking.”
