Shola Ameobi has made a real impact since signing up with his latest club earlier this month.

Kevin Nolan saying that ‘It’s massive what Shola does’.

Nolan was recently appointed Manager at Notts County and after a transfer embargo was lifted, he made former Newcastle teammate Ameobi one of his first signings.

After a late 20 minute spell off the bench in a 2-0 defeat at Accrington Stanley just after joining the club, Shola Ameobi has gone on to help Nolan and Notts County pick up seven points from the last nine.

That has now placed them three places and four points above a potential drop out of the fourth tier and into non-league football.

Shola Ameobi played in the 2-1 win over Cheltenham last weekend and then in midweek, came on for the last half hour when they were trailing 1-0 at Exeter who are currently in the play-off positions.

A valuable point was gained in an eventual 2-2 draw and then Saturday saw a vital 3-2 win at fellow strugglers Leyton Orient, Shola playing the full 90 minutes.

Kevin Nolan says Shola gives his new team ‘composure’ on the pitch, as well as being ‘brilliant in the dressing room’.

Kevin Nolan talking to the Nottingham Post:

“Shola Ameobi gives you composure and when you have the likes of a Mark Yeates, Michael O’Connor, Jorge Grant, Rob Milsom and Jon Stead around him, it’s brilliant.

“It’s massive what Shola does. He gets you up the pitch and you need that in every team – he does that for us in abundance.

“He’s brilliant in the dressing room. We’ve got good characters and good lads in there who all want to be here.

“They are all loving what is happening at the minute and I am delighted with them all.”
