The visit for Super Geordie Steve Bruce and his Villa team coincided with the biggest display, so far, from Gallowgate Flags.

Added to the usual type of flags that have featured before, there was a new much bigger ‘surfer’ on display, as well as another special new one in honour of Rafa Benitez.

Newcastle United have put out a video showing behind the scenes on Monday, including an interview with one of the Gallowgate Flags organisers – watch it below.

Like all the rest of the Gallowgate flags, these new flags have been paid for by ordinary Newcastle fans.

As well as the display of flags, all fans were asked to bring along their Newcastle United scarves as a contribution to the visual impact.

The organisers need as much help as possible, whether you are sitting in the Gallowgate End or elsewhere and there is a possibility of expanding the flags display into the rest of St James Park, so get in touch if you are interested – Gallowgate Flags can be reached via email – [email protected]

Gallowgate Flags pre-match:

“Huge plans for Villa. It’s going to be the biggest yet by a mile.

“We want everyone in the ground 15 mins early. Help us spread the word.”

Monday night proved to be the best yet and a big well done to all who are involved.
