We all still love Chris Hughton, even if he thinks Mad Dog Madley was correct in giving the penalty.
The injustice suffered by Newcastle fans at that oh so weak penalty award by (Huddersfield fan) Madley, was seemingly nothing in comparison to the sick in the mouth feeling Chris Hughton felt, when Mohamed expertly steered the ball into the top corner when he didn’t even see the ball.
The sign of a great player surely…
Chris Hughton disagreed and called Diame’s equaliser a ‘sickener’, saying ‘I wondered at the time how it had gone in’.
Coaching manuals will fall over themselves in the future for the Senegalese star’s expert guidance and fingers crossed that notice is taken of another atrocious decision by Madley that almost cost Newcastle dear.
Chris Hughton will surely reflect later that Brighton were well on top when it came to luck on Tuesday night but for sheer resilience and defiance, Newcastle were worthy winners.
“Was the equaliser a sickener? Yes!
“I don’t think it was a result we deserved.
“I’ve seen the penalty and there is no doubt Clark has his hands all over him. The referee was in a good position to see it and I think it was a penalty.
“But then it (the equaliser) was one of those really unfortunate goals.
“I wondered at the time how it had gone in.
“But that gives Newcastle momentum going into that last period.
“I didn’t think that we were at our best today but I still thought we would go on to win.”
