Yoan Gouffran was asked to play a leading role against Birmingham City in this FA Cup replay and he didn’t disappoint.

Rafa Benitez made eight changes to his side and protected the likes of Daryl Murphy, currently his only fit out and out striker.

So Yoan Gouffran moved up front and played through the middle without a great deal of support, though you have to say Birmingham were shocking for most of the game.

Before 10 minutes were up, Gouffran set Newcastle on their way by winning a penalty which Matt Ritchie converted.

Then in the 34th minute, the ball was played into the former Bordeaux man on the edge of the box and his clever flick, turn and finish, decided the match effectively.

Watch his excellent goal below.
