Claims on Thursday morning that Chancel Mbemba could be on the move.

Reports from Belgium say that Anderlecht are desperate for a centre-back and are hoping for the return of the DR Congo international.

A permanent signing is surely way beyond the Belgian club’s means and a loan one is arguably even less likely.

The relative finances of the Premier League and Belgian football mean that Anderlecht could come nowhere near repaying anything like the £10m+ that Newcastle handed over for the then 20 year old.

Whilst even on a loan basis, Newcastle would surely have to heavily contribute to the defender’s wages as Anderlecht only have Europa League football this season, not Champions League.

From the Newcastle side of things, Chancel Mbemba is clearly third choice centre-back at the moment and pretty much an ever present on the bench in the past few months.

Rafa Benitez is hardly going to loan somebody out who is his go to player if injury strikes either Ciaran Clark or Jamaal Lascelles.

Maybe if somebody offered Newcastle their money back on Mbemba and Rafa could use it to buy a replacement, would there be a chance of movement – but that isn’t going to happen.
