It is Sunderland v Newcastle in the last 16 of the FA Youth Cup.

Newcastle’s young potential stars of the future beat Swansea 3-1 on Monday at St James Park and the Mackems have confirmed the derby with their own 3-1 win over Shrewsbury last (Wednesday) night.

The fifth round had been drawn before this week’s matches, so United knew they would/could meet their local rivals on Wearside if the two progressed.

No date for the game as yet but it has to take place by Saturday 4 February at the latest.

No reason to think that the Newcastle youth can’t give us a bit of local pride, as they won 1-0 at Sunderland this season in the Under 18s Premier League.

The Under 18s Premier League table currently shows Newcastle in seventh and Sunderland twelfth (bottom), so good luck to the Newcastle youngsters in keeping their superiority going this season.
