Sky Sports have confirmed that Newcastle United are trying to sign Swansea winger Modou Barrow.
Monday afternoon saw the media in the West Midlands report that Newcastle United were rivalling Aston Villa for the Swansea player and both the Times and Telegraph on Tuesday morning, have stated that with the Andros Townsend deal looking very unlikely to happen, NUFC have switched to Modou Barrow as an alternative.
Crystal Palace were said to have no interest in considering an initial loan arrangement for Townsend but Swansea are prepared, according to Sky Sports and others, to go down that route.
Newcastle United seemingly not keen on committing to permanent buys until promotion is hopefully confirmed in May.
‘Newcastle are interested in signing Swansea’s Mo Barrow, according to Sky sources.
Swansea are willing to allow the winger to leave but a loan move is most likely at this stage.
Barrow last played for Swansea on New Year’s Eve in a 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth and has made 19 appearances for the club this season.
He’s been pushed further down the pecking order following the arrival of Luciano Narsingh from PSV.’
Barrow is reported to have a £5m release clause and the 24 year old was signed for just under £2m from Swedish club Ostersunds FK two years ago.
Since then he has played 44 league matches for Swansea (18 starts, 26 from the bench) and has one goal and five assists.
