Last weekend Newcastle got a lift when Brentford’s star player Scott Hogan was left out, due to an imminent transfer to West Ham.

Now history is set to repeat itself only seven days later with Rotherham set to do the same.

Scott Hogan had started every Championship match this season before being left out of the game previous to the Newcastle one, due to a claimed pain in the backside suffered by the star striker, as the move to the Hammers looked on. The forward then left on the bench against Newcastle to protect him from injury, as Brentford rejected bids from West Ham and wait for them to offer £15m.

Saturday sees Newcastle face Rotherham and their star player is also set to leave.

Danny Ward has been involved in 11 of Rotherham’s 27 goals, scoring nine and grabbing two assists but with speculation rife that he is leaving in this transfer window, he was a surprise missing name last Saturday (2-1 win over Norwich) with a ‘back spasm’, despite starting all the previous 25 Championship games this season.

The club’s biggest asset, Ward is out of contract this summer and will leave for nothing if he isn’t sold this month, and with Rotherham in a hopeless position nine points off and rock bottom of the league. he needs to stay off the injured list if they are to sell him and bring in some much needed funds in the coming days.

Sky Sports report that Rotherham have turned down five bids so far for Danny Ward, with the latest an offer somewhere over £2m from an unnamed Championship club

Danny Ward:

“As long as I’m here and putting on a Rotherham shirt I’m giving 100%

“I’m keeping my mind on the games at the moment and not letting all the rumours flying about affect me.”

I have a feeling that there will be another ‘back spasm’ arriving on Saturday afternoon as Rotherham ensure that this auction for their star striker ends successfully.
