The Rafa Benitez Oxford Press Conference has taken place on Friday lunchtime.

The United boss confirming that he still likes Andros Townsend but that there was no positive news at the minute.

Earlier, Sam Allardyce said at his press conference that Newcastle hadn’t made a bid for the winger and that he didn’t feel like loaning players out because he had been knocked back when trying to get loan signings in himself.

Whilst confirming that he was still working hard to bring a signing or two in this month, Rafa Benitez also said that the situation is clearing a little when it comes to injured players.

The United boss confirmed that both Jesus Gamez and Aleksandar Mitrovic would be in the squad tomorrow at Oxford.

When it comes to those still in the treatment room, Rafa says that figure has now been reduced to three, with Rolando Aarons, Dwight Gayle and Vurnon Anita the only ones unavailable.

With it being only a matter of days before he starts getting players back from the African Cup of Nations, the pressure is easing all the time when it comes to the strength of his available squad.

First quotes from the Rafa Benitez Oxford Press Conference:

“We have Anita, Gayle and Aarons injured but the others are fine.

“It’s important to approach the game using the squad. We have three players away, so we need to balance the team.

“I think that we have to balance the team (to play Oxford) with some young players and some players coming back from injuries.

January is quite difficult, because sometimes they don’t want to sell or the prices are too high.

“You know that I like Andros (Townsend) but there is no news (at the minute).

“We continue to work hard to find players who can bring balance to the squad and I’m confident.”
