Newcastle supporters happy to get into the fourth round for the first time in five years but what about the Oxford fans?

Some entertaining and interesting comments from the home fans, who sold out the game within 36 hours of Newcastle beating Birmingham in the replay.

A game they think they can win, winning a trophy more recently than Newcastle, dreaming of a replay at St James Park and a trip to Tyneside…it’s all there below.

Comments from Oxford fans via their top message board YellowsForum:

Before the 4th round draw:

‘I’d take Newcastle as a good and winnable tie.’

‘Away to the Geordies would be brilliant.’

After the 4th round draw:

‘If it’s Newcastle that’s a superb draw.

‘Happy with that…

Come on Newcastle!!’

‘Brilliant draw, only thing would make it better is if it was away! Hope it’s Newcastle.’

‘Said I’d love to get Newcastle away, but having them at home will be great too. Hope they beat Brum.’

‘Newcastle away would have been phenomenal. Home, we’ll sell out, but home games are soulless and bland. The excellent atmosphere at every away game is how supporting Oxford united should be.’

‘Newcastle would make the more attractive half and half scarf option.’

‘Hope it’s Newcastle, just a shame the stupid Geordie tw*ts got relegated last season else it would of been a tv game.’

‘Great draw, especially if it’s Newcastle. Demand will way outstrip supply. If we had a big stadium say 25k that would be close to a sell out, at least 20k no problem.’

NUFC = great support, atmosphere, occasion

BCFC = I am confident we can beat them as zola likes to play football.’

‘Reasonably okay draw if it’s Newcastle. They’re a bigger club than Swansea and Blackburn (but still not as big as they think they are). ‘

‘Great draw, can’t wait. Packed house, raucous atmosphere, it’s what football is all about, bring it on. Let’s get the place rocking and roar the Yellows on to victory.’

‘NUFC are a huge club chronically mis-managed for years

If ashley didn’t treat nufc as some sort of weird sports direct branding exercise they would be top six. they are a bigger club than mcfc or chelsea (both pumped up ‘artificially’)

We have a great chance of beating either brum or nufc.’

‘When newcastle were shi*e they struggled to get 15,000. When man city were shi*e they regularly packed out maine road every week.’

‘I think some on here need to drop the big sophisticated act. Who cares about the money or TV, if you can’t get excited about playing Newcastle you might as well give up now.’

‘I still feel excited by it though. Newcastle should be considered a ‘big club’ in anyone’s estimation. There was a 50/50 chance of getting a home tie, and I’d rather a home tie against Newcastle than, say, Watford or Burnley or Hull or Middlesbrough. We’d fill the stadium for any of those, but Newcastle has more allure for me.’

‘Of course there are always “better options”…. Geordies away as an example, however we`ve got what we`ve got. Full house, as much chance of a win as any other game…’

‘The media in general are only interested in the Premier League clubs, so the coverage of a Championship club v L1 is not as much as a Prem v L1 game, but for most football fans I think Newcastle are bigger than a good third of the PL, and probably half of them.

This time last year they were ranked 17th richest club in the World! Now if that’s a crap draw then the world has surely gone mad.’

At least we can say that we have won a major cup more recently that the Geordies have.’

‘Who can’t?’

‘Personally I would prefer Newcastle and would be chuffed to bits if we got a replay there and had a decent day out.’

During the Newcastle v Birmingham match:

‘Looks like the circus is coming to the town.’

‘Way more fun if Newcastle hold on…they have a bigger, more hilarious fanbase.’

‘3-1 Newcastle. Get ready for their INVASION.’

After Newcastle beat Birmingham:

‘Roll on a week Saturday .. COYY!!!’

‘Keegan, Gazza, Jimmy Nail, Sid the Sexist, they’ll all be there!’

‘Seems like it’s sold out. Bugger.’

‘Will be the second highest gate at home vs Newcastle in our history (highest also a cup game in front of 13,040 fans).’

‘And higher than the 10,004 that watched us for a Championship game at St James Park in 1991.

Obviously the Geordie nation were washing there hair that day.’

‘Have to say I’m utterly flabberghasted this is not on TV.

I’m not some yellow and blue specs tinted loon, but it’s clearly the tie of the round.

What pees me off is how the Beeb or Bt or whoever is showing it these days wang on about ‘the magic of the cup’ and then stick Liverpool v Wolves and Man Utd v WIgan. (WIGAN!!) on the box.

Yeah, yeah I get that televising each of the big four guarantees ad rates etc, but, come on. Newcastle are an absolute whopper of a club and they’d ensure a big audience.’

‘Completely agree. Newcastle are one of the biggest clubs in England, we are on the rise after years of nonsense. Got all the ingredients for a great cup tie. Yet they put Man United v Their opponents on…’
