The results of the Newcastle v Brentford player ratings by fans.
United hanging on for a dramatic win despite three players forced off by injury and surviving nine minutes of added time.
Man of the match for supporters was Ciaran Clark (8.0), his consistency has been phenomenal and it is very rare that he is ever not in the top three most highly rated players in any game. On Saturday he was an absolute rock as early Newcastle dominance was followed by an hour with the home side well on top.
Next best was substitute Daryl Murphy (7.3) with an excellent contribution, scoring the winning goal and a very good all round display, with not a lot of support much of the time.
Karl Darlow (7.0) arguably deserved a higher rating with some outstanding saves, though he was partially at fault for the Brentford equaliser.
Dwight Gayle (6.9) is another who surely should/would have had a better mark, scoring a brilliant opener and looking at the top of his game, only the length of time on the pitch must have cut his ratings.
At the other end of the spectrum, once again Newcastle failed to control the midfield throughout the match.
Obviously the injuries played a part but once again Jack Colback (4.3) and Yoan Gouffran (4.7) were poor, whilst Matt Ritchie (5.1) once again was below par and Isaac Hayden (5.4) finding the responsibility a little too much to handle with the lack of help from more experienced players around him.
The rest of the defence also heavily relied on Clark and Darlow, with Jamaal Lascelles (5.0) once again in Clark’s shadow, whilst full-backs Yedlin (5.2) and Dummett (5.0) were exposed at times.
Ayoze Perez (6.1) was one of only four players to get 6.-0 or better and a large part of his mark must have come from the sublime cross he put in for the winner.
A day where Newcastle really rode their luck and came away with a scarcely deserved three points.
