Newcastle making move for Andros Townsend – Reports

Newcastle United are approaching Crystal Palace for Andros Townsend according to reports on Thursday morning.

The Magpies are looking for an initial loan deal in January with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season, the Chronicle saying that the winger is United’s big target and they are now moving to try and bring him back.

After defeating Birmingham 3-1 last night, Rafa Benitez also gave an encouraging update on the transfer front.

“I was talking with Lee Charnley this (Wednesday) morning. Hopefully he was working in the evening and maybe he will give me a surprise in a few hours, in a few days, you never know…”

This followed Rafa Benitez saying this on Tuesday 17 January 2017:

“We have some options, a couple of them could be really good. Someone I like a lot, so hopefully we can progress.”

Andros Townsend is a player that would give Newcastle undoubted added quality and if he did make his return, past history tells us that the fact he deserted after relegation will be quickly forgiven, if not forgotten, if he turns it on again in black and white.

In only 12 matches last season he scored four goals for Newcastle and also got two assists – but at Crystal Palace he is having a nightmare, only one goal and one assist so far and the fans getting on his back.

Palace are only one point off bottom of the Premier League and only out of the relegation zone on goal difference, so it is easy to assume that Sam Allardyce will be looking to bring in some signings of his own, which will undoubtedly mean others going out the exit door.

The January transfer window closes in 12 days time and one or two quality additions would give a massive boost.
