Rafa Benitez wants to bring Andros Townsend back to Newcastle United according to dramatic claims on Saturday night.

The winger has had a nightmare at Crystal Palace and in over five months of football has contributed only one goal and one assist in the Premier League,

Newcastle United are now said to be making approaches to see if both Andros Townsend and Crystal Palace are open to the deal, which could see the winger back at St James Park.

After missing out on various other targets, The Mail say that Rafa Benitez has now made Townsend his top priority and feels he is the player who can help Newcastle make sure of promotion.

In only 12 Premier League starts, Andros Townsend scored four goals and grabbed two assists for Newcastle, the player though deciding to jump ship on Newcastle’s relegation – via a clause in his contract.

Things are getting desperate at Crystal Palace and they crashed 3-0 at West Ham, with Townsend the first to be instantly subbed as the Hammers took the lead.

Palace are now only one point off rock bottom and kept out of the relegation zone only by goal difference.

It would be an amazing deal if it happened but after appointing Allardyce the South London club will need to supply him with funds and after the money Alan Pardew spent in his couple of years at the club, they may need to generate some of that cash via sales.
