Newcastle loan winger Callum Roberts has set himself a minimum target for the rest of this season.

After joining Kilmarnock until May, the young United star says he is aiming for ‘five goals and a few assists’ north of the border.

Callum Roberts has an impressive eight goals already this season for Newcastle United’s Under 23 (reserve) side and wants to keep that momentum going.

A disappointing loan spell at Gateshead back in 2014/15 saw a 17 year old Roberts struggle but he feels a lot more ready for the step up this time.

The United winger joins Lee Clark and Kilmarnock along with goalkeeper Freddie Woodman and midfielder Sean Longstaff until the end of the season.

Callum Roberts talking to the official NUFC website:

“Hopefully it can be more successful than the other one (at Gateshead in 2014/15).

“I feel a lot fitter and stronger now than what I did when I went on loan last time, so I think I’m ready for this one.

“I’m looking forward to those two games (Rangers and Celtic).

“It’s actually my dad’s wedding day when it’s Celtic away, so I’ve told him I’m missing it! That’ll be one of the biggest games of the season, and I can’t miss that.

“I just want to play well up there and catch some eyes to hopefully go out on loan again next season.

“I’ve set myself a goal of getting more than five goals and a few assists while I’m there.

“If I can get more than that it’s great, but if I can get that, I’d be pretty pleased.”
