Thanks to our man on the spot Jonathan Drape-Comyn at Griffin Park – match ratings from Brentford 1 Newcastle 2.

Darlow 9 – Full of confidence and made a key save at the end. You always expect him to make the save and he usually does!

Yedlin 5 – Had one of his worst games for Newcastle today. Looked like the weak link in the back four and didn’t go his way going forward neither.

Lascelles 9 – A rock at the back. Although when the going got tough today, the players on the pitch looked silent.

Clark  10 – Along with Gayle and Shelvey, our most consistent player this season.

Dummett 8 – Solid at the back again, does his job and all you can ask on days like this.

Colback 6 – Another poor performance from him but he did dig deep in the last 10 minutes and gave 100%.

Hayden 7 – Confident performance up until he picked up his injury, would be a shame to lose him for a few weeks.

Ritchie 6 – Going through a rough patch at the moment but like Colback, works his socks off defensively and it will come soon.

Perez 6 – If he hadn’t have set up the winner with a brilliant assist then it would have been a 3. Didn’t turn up today, as per usual.

Gouffran 5 – Really not good enough but appears to be the only option on the left hand side.

Gayle 9 – Looked a threat while he was on with his pace and scored a great goal from what seemed an uncanny angle.

Murphy 9 – Hasn’t put a foot wrong when he’s been given the chance so far. Amazing what happens when you cross the ball into the big man isn’t it?

Anita N/A (Not on long enough)

Hanley 7 – Did a job when he came on and won his fair share of headers. Centre back is the area of the time where we are at our strongest… Is that the first time in Newcastle’s recent history that we have said that?

Another great (massive, given the context) result, another poor performance.
