Kevin Nolan took on a tough job when agreeing to be manager of Notts County
The League Two club having lost seven games in a row and staring the National League in the face, as one of the bottom two.
To exasperate the problem, due to debts already carried by the club when Nolan agreed to take the job, he was also unable to make any signings due to an embargo.
However, after the financial situation was settled, Notts County signed Mark Yeates last (Monday) night and Kevin Nolan has now signed himself!
Yes, though he was taken on as Manager, even he couldn’t be registered as a player due to that embargo.
Kevin Nolan will now be looking to build on a promising start of a draw, a defeat and a victory in his opening three games, those four points having lifted Notts County out of the relegation zone by a point.
Joining him in those endeavours could be another surprise former Newcastle player, with Shola Ameobi now training with the club.
The pair were of course together at Newcastle United and will both be largely remembered for those special days against Sunderland.
As a free agent, Shola can be signed on any time and so tonight’s ‘exciting’ transfer deadline won’t play any part in whether or not he signs on with Notts County.
Notts County owner Alan Hardy:
“It was always Kevin’s intention to register as a player and I’m delighted to confirm we have now completed the formalities.
“He will of course need to continue building his fitness but, when he’s ready, I’m confident we will have one of, if not the, best midfielders in the league.”
