With 20 goals in 21 Championship starts, it has been an outstanding effort by Dwight Gayle.
The first Newcastle striker/player to get 20 goals since a certain Alan Shearer in 2003/04.
It is typical that just as one of Newcastle’s two irreplaceable players is now ready to come back in the case of Jonjo Shelvey, the other one of the pair picks up an injury.
Dwight Gayle looked on fire on Saturday and was terrorising the Brentford backline, eventually scoring a very special goal (watch it below) to give United the lead before going down with a hamstring injury.
Yesterday we featured comments from Brentford fans and they were unanimous in saying that Newcastle looked a totally different team once Gayle was forced off.
Everything crossed that he is back as soon as possible.
Below we have footage of every goal Dwight Gayle has scored this season and firstly, here is a breakdown of where those goals have arrived and the impact they have had on results and points.
Since his opener in the defeat against Huddersfield, the number nine’s last 19 goals have featured in nine wins, giving Newcastle 27 points.
I find it hard to believe we would have got anything near that return without Dwight Gayle but now opportunity knocks for the likes of Daryl Murphy and with two goals in a week he hasn’t made a bad start.
