Charlie Nicholas has given his prediction for Newcastle v Birmingham on Wednesday night.

The former Arsenal player thinks that the two clubs have very different problems.

Gianfranco Zola took over from Gary Rowett in December in a bizarre move by Birmingham’s owners.

Since then it has been a disaster for both club and new manager, with Zola failing to win any of his six games in charge, including the 1-1 draw with Newcastle nine days ago.

The FA Cup replay is a nightmare for Rafa Benitez and a game he could do without – injuries, international duty and cup-tied players, meaning six players were left out of the Newcastle reserve team on Monday night, so he has a squad to work with against Birmingham.

Charlie Nicholas isn’t expecting a classic and believes it will be goalless after 90 minutes, then Birmingham going through in extra time.

Charlie Nicholas speaking to Sky Sports:

Newcastle v Birmingham (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

“Newcastle have got a lot of players out but Birmingham can’t get a win under Gianfranco Zola.

“I see this being really tight and I can see it going the distance.”

“Prediction is 0-0 and Birmingham to qualify in extra-time.”

Before Newcastle play on Wednesday, Sunderland travel to Burnley for their replay on Tuesday night, Charlie Nicholas predicting a 2-0 defeat for the Mackems.
