Brentford fans comment on Newcastle team and supporters ahead of Saturday

Interesting/amusing stuff from Brentford fans as they look forward to the visit of Newcastle United and their supporters on Saturday.

The late shift of the game is looked at, plus a bit of a panic when a few snowflakes were spotted over London.

The Brentford fans are clearly looking forward to the match but mixed feelings as to how it is going to go.

The absence of Shelvey is seen as a massive positive but many of their supporters don’t seem too confident about their own Brentford side and worry they will sit back and invite Newcastle to win the game.

Let’s hope so!

Comments from Brentford fans via their top message board GriffinPark.org:

‘Gutted. Earned loads of brownie points booking a weekend away with the other half, feeling pretty smug that I wouldn’t miss a Bees game. Doh!’

‘Biggest occasion league wise of the season as far as I’m concerned. Now it’s a proper midwinter Saturday 3pm game it should definitely be a full house.’

‘My Season Ticket holder daughter works Monday evenings on purpose so she can get to Tues games so has a big grin on her face tonight as she didn’t want to miss the Toon Army rolling into TW8!’

‘Point is,why move it in first place. Mindless and brainless’

‘Because it was going to be on telly. This isn’t a new phenomenon and I’m not sure what you find hard to understand about it.’

‘The fact that it was needlessly moved. Why would a game be on tele the day before either team may have a cup replay thereby only giving a weeks notice to the rearranged date, which in fact is the proper date and preferred date, thereby having agsin to try and get leave which was booked once and cancelled. It’s stark staring bonkers.’

‘Newcastle fans must be totally p*ssed off by this.

Why on earth schedule a live TV game knowing that in all probability it could change and disrupt supporters plans.

I also read somewhere that after they play us Newcastle have four home games on the trot which could become five if they get through to R4 of the cup and get a home draw.’

‘I suspect a large percentage of Newcastle fans are more pi**ed off about no longer being able to watch the match live on telly.’

‘Blame Sky not the club.’

That’s what people used to say about the suffragettes. Blame the law not the police.

Clubs who actually value their fans need to stand up and be counted.’

‘It’s the price we pay for getting the pots of cash that televising of games gives. That’s a clock that’s not being turned back. Or not without bankrupting a lot of clubs.

I suppose they could have shifted the fa cup replay but not without a separate set of whinges about disrespect to that competition and how sad it was that televising league games came above preservation of the fa cup.’

‘Shelvey totally ran the show at their place so it is a very good time to play them as he is still suspended.

Our changed formation should help as well as it makes us much tighter if needed as they attacked from wide positions very well.’

‘They’ve already lost 7 this season, more than Burnley lost last season and more than third place Brighton did all season….they aren’t all that.’

‘Buzzzing for this now!!! Newcastle in town and a Saturday on the beers. COYB.’

‘The most hospitable away game so lets reciprocate and give them respect.’

‘Not meant as offensive…said in jest with respect to forecast weather…well supported football club…real people…and nearly Scottish.

‘I’d love a victory – 2-1 would do.

I’d take a draw – 1-1.

I don’t want to lose.’

‘It’s snow for a couple of hours this evening and then the lowest overnight temperature is 0℃, which is the lowest minimum forecast right through until Saturday, with 4℃ the high in sunshine.

No need to panic.’

‘Snow covers on yet? That blizzard last night was dreadful.’

‘Minus 1 overnight Friday and plus 5 Saturday afternoon. Game on.’

‘They could end up with a record amount of defeats in a season for a promoted the way they are going.’

‘Could someone please help two Norwegian fans with two tickets for the game? PM me if you could help, thanks a lot! Would appreciate it.’

‘Which team are they fans of?

Seen a couple of Danish fans asking for tickets in the home end for this one too.’

‘They’re from the fjords of Whitley Bay?’

T’he problem is we’ll let Newcastle play, and if we do that we’ll lose. Teams do well against them when they get in their faces and don’t give them that space.

We’ll do what we did yesterday….and at St James’s Park, which is sit back and hope something will happen.’

‘A Hogan brace for me.

2-1 to the good guys!’

Newcastle just a bit too hot to handle unfortunately: Brentford 0 Newcastle 2.’

‘Will no Shelvey, we may just edge it. He clearly pulls all the strings in midfield, but without him I think we could scrape this. I’ll go for 1-0 Bees.’

‘You took the words right out of my mouth , he clearly pulls the strings in midfield and when he,s not playing they are not the same force . They are still a good side but im going for a 2-1 win for the bees.’
