What did Birmingham fans make of Saturday?

FA Cup third round and at least as much emphasis on the number of fans as on the result.

On the pitch it was a game of two halves, Newcastle on top in the first then second best after the break.

Off the pitch there were eight thousand from Birmingham and five thousand in black and white.

Comments from Birmingham fans via their top message board SmallHeathAlliance:

‘The 8,000 (Birmingham fans) all sang together, quality today.

‘No, it really wasn’t kid. It was embarrassing.

I was in the away end and I felt ashamed that I couldn’t defend the pics taken by my Durham cousins.’

‘Today was just about the most embarrassing day I can recall, our support is sh*t!

This new board and manager must be wondering why they came here!’

‘Considering how many were there thought the support was ok after the first twenty minutes.

Newcastle not very good either after a good start.’

‘8,500 there yesterday would have probably been nearer 10-11k had all the nonsense before Christmas not transpired, plus Newcastle’s 5k would have seen a more respectable 16k attendance.’

‘I wish our fans were half as religious about Blues as Newcastle, West Ham, the Glasgow and Merseyside clubs.’

‘Well we don’t have their history.’

‘At the Newcastle away league game their fans said we were the best/loudest away fans this season.

Got talking to a Geordie walking away from the ground and he was moaning about the atmosphere of their 49,000 fans against us. It was very quiet considering they tanked us.

Turned out ok though, they took us to a Lap dancing/ strip club. No admission fee, £2-50 pint. Great weekend up there.’

‘Pleasantly surprised today we may not have the best footballers but got stuck into them and should have won late on..

Travelled 5 hours to support the lads shame to see the ground so empty though. Couple of signings we should be fine.’

‘Good game enjoyed it only one downside Newcastle away midweek :( Long old slog.’

‘Enjoyed it after a difficult first 15 minutes when Newcastle a yard quicker than us. The centre half missed a good chance from a corner which would have kiiled it.

I thought Robinson did well so much better on the ball than Shotton or Morrison but obviously way past his best. the defence had a much better shape when on the ball.

Deserved to win in the end, did Newcastle have a shot second half?’

‘We played well today. Passed it well and battled very well after a poor start.’

‘Against Newcastle’s second team.

Not really complaining, but Zola’s still got a lot to prove.’

‘BBC reckon its all over and the barcodes will win the replay.’

‘We all remember what happened last time we earned an away replay with Newcastle in the 3rd round ;)’
