With the New Year bells ringing, Alan Shearer has revealed two wishes for the rest of the season.

The legendary number nine is thinking of two former clubs in his choices.

Not surprisingly, his first wish is to see Newcastle back in the Premier League next season.

Then secondly, he wants the club he won the Premier League with, Blackburn Rovers, to survive their relegation fight and ‘get a bit of happiness’.

After Monday, Alan Shearer will be able to cheer on both of his new year wishes but little doubt that tomorrow he will be only focusing on a Newcastle win.

A victory for Blackburn would see them climb out of the bottom three if Cardiff lose at home to Aston Villa.

On the other hand, if Newcastle win, they could potentially go four points clear of Brighton and 12 ahead of third placed Reading, they both have tricky away matches at Fulham and Bristol City respectively.

Alan Shearer speaking to Coral:

“I have got two wishes.

“I want to see Newcastle promoted…

“…and I want to see my old club Blackburn survive.

“They (Blackburn) are in a mire, they are in a dogfight, I don’t like to see where they are at this moment in time, I don’t like to see the disharmony between the fans and the owners.

“So I want to see Newcastle promoted and Blackburn climb the league, get out of trouble and get a bit of happiness at their football club.”
