Carlos Carvalhal says that the fact Karl Darlow was Newcastle’s man of the match, tells you everything.

The United keeper standing alone between Sheffield Wednesday and an earlier deserved lead, even he could do nothing though about the winner from Captain Glenn Loovens.

Sheff Wed boss Carlos Carvalhal says that he told his players that ‘you only get one chance to be remembered, in the end people don’t remember how much money you have’, this is certainly something fans can relate to even if many of today’s players possibly can’t.

Whatever Newcastle’s shortcomings were on the night, you have to accept that Sheffield Wednesday looked the best team we have seen so far at St James Park, even despite some of their cynical fouls and later predictable time wasting.

Carlos Carvalhal:

“I said in the week that we are Sheffield Wednesday.

“I hear a lot this week about the Wednesday team in the past that beat Sheffield United on Boxing Day and how everybody remembers those players.

“I tell my players that you only get one chance to be remembered, in the end people don’t remember how much money you have, but they will remember when Sheffield Wednesday come to St James Park and win on Boxing Day.

“We caused the opposition a lot of problems with our attacking, I think the goalkeeper was their best player, which shows how many chances we created.

“I am happy for Glenn Loovens to score his first goal, we know that we have goals in our defenders because they are strong headers of the ball.

“I could hear them (Sheff Wed fans) all the way through the game – they support us all the way through once again and they helped us.

“We are happy with this result but now we don’t have time to celebrate as we have two games coming up fast, so know we must work to prepare for these just as we have tonight.”
