Nottingham Forest fans vote on whether Nicklas Bendtner should face Newcastle

One of the more noteworthy signings in the Championship this summer, was when Nicklas Bendtner turned up at Nottingham Forest.

This serial under/non-achiever has only managed double figures once in the league and that was back in 2006/07 for Birmingham City.

Despite his lack of goals (and ability?) he has nevertheless racked up 74 caps for Denmark and made 37 Champions League appearances, whilst playing for clubs of the calibre of Arsenal. Wolfsburg and Juventus.

Arriving as a free agent in September after Wolfsburg released him, Nicklas Bendtner has made eight appearances (3 starts, 5 as sub) for Forest and scored one goal.

The Danish striker is now fit again after six weeks out with an ankle injury and is one of three forwards competing to start against Newcastle.

Britt Assombalonga is the only striker to have a better minutes per goal ratio than Dwight Gayle, scoring six goals at a rate of one every 56 minutes, he is also back from injury for tomorrow’s game.

Also with six goals, Apostolos Vellios is the third forward hoping to start.

Forest boss Philippe Montanier welcomes the competition:

“It is a very nice problem to have, I prefer to have this problem than not to have players available.

“It is important to have good players on the bench as well as in the starting XI.”

The Nottingham Post have asked Forest fans which striker(s) should start against Newcastle and this was the voting by 5pm on Thursday afternoon:

65% Play only Britt Assombalonga

28% Play two strikers

4% Play only Apostolos Vellios

3% Play only Nicklas Bendtner

Good to see the former mackem loan player has already made such an impact!
