Newcastle star named in EFL Team of the Round

The EFL Team of the Round has been named after the quarter-final ties and it includes Newcastle Captain Jamaal Lascelles.

The team consisting of 3 Man Utd players, 2 each from Liverpool, Hull & Southampton, plus Championship pair Lascelles and Leeds’ Kemar Roofe.

Probably a token choice from a Newcastle side up against Premier League opposition, as whilst Lascelles (pictured above disappearing over the advertising hoardings after getting a push) did ok, yet again Ciaran Clark was head and shoulders above any other NUFC defender.

For Hull, keeper Jakupovic is predictably included for his save both during the match and in the penalty shoot-out, whilst defender Harry Maguire is also credited, after helping to keep Dwight Gayle so quiet.

Official EFL write-up:

Defender: Jamaal Lascelles (Newcastle United)

‘Despite their exit at the hands of Hull, Lascelles was a rock at the back in Newcastle’s Quarter-Final defeat.

The Premier League outfit struggled to break down the visitors throughout, and the Magpies skipper was the star performer in the backline.’

EFL Team of the Round:

Eldin Jakupovic (Hull City)

Ryan Bertrand (Southampton)

Jamaal Lascelles (Newcastle United)

Harry Maguire (Hull City)

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Kemar Roofe (Leeds United)

Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Manchester United)

Sofiane Boufal (Southampton)

Anthony Martial (Manchester United)

Ben Woodburn (Liverpool)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Manchester United)

EFL Manager of the Round:

Claude Puel (Southampton)
