Wednesday morning sees reports of a likely Aleksandar Mitrovic move to Crystal Palace.
You always pay your money and take your chance with transfer stories and on this occasion it is very hard to tell if it is even a new story, or simply a filler in a week without any football.
Both The Mail and the Chronicle are running the story that Alan Pardew is seriously interested in taking Mitrovic to score the goals and keep them safe from relegation.
However, Swansea ‘interest’ is also included and at the weekend we saw The Mirror running a transfer tale claiming Swansea had already informed Newcastle they were going to offer £15m for the Serbian, with the newspaper saying that they understood United would turn it down. Crystal Palace have also been linked with Mitrovic in the past, by the media.
As we said at the weekend, it would be a major surprise if Rafa Benitez did turn down such an offer (£15m) if it became reality.
With only four Premier League starts for the former Anderlecht forward this season, it is clear the United boss sees no role in the team unless something happens to Dwight Gayle.
As the biggest wage earner at the club surely Rafa would snap their hands off if Newcastle could make a profit on the Serbian, save on his huge wages and then be able to bring in a player who he does want to play in the team.
