Mixed messages from Crystal Palace fans after swapping Alan Pardew for Sam Allardyce

Alan Pardew or Sam Allardyce? What a choice!

Having the worst form in 2016 of all clubs in the four divisions, it was inevitable that even Crystal Palace and their fans had to accept that Alan Pardew wasn’t very good.

Just as inevitably, it was clear that Palace must have somebody else lined up when they agreed to reportedly give Pards a £5m pay-off – that this replacement was Sam Allardyce was a third piece of inevitability.

If Palace had appointed pretty much anybody else then I think the remote interest Newcastle fans have had in events at Selhurst Park would pretty much have completely disappeared.

Appointing this fat fraud though, means it is also…inevitable, that we will have an occasional look at what does happen now at Crystal Palace.

Just like with Alan Pardew, we have experience of Sam Allardyce and so have a a decent idea of what could be in store for Palace supporters.Though of course many of them will say we haven’t a clue…just as is the case with West Ham supporters, who also have past experience of both managers as well.

Interesting to see some initial comments (see below) from Crystal Palace fans at the Sam Allardyce appointment, there certainly seems to be little joy when hearing the decision.

Some are positive and some are not so – maybe the main feeling is that bringing Fat Sam in is a little like taking some really horrible medicine – you know it isn’t going to be enjoyable but is still has to be done..

Official Crystal Palace Statement:

Crystal Palace Football Club are pleased to announce Sam Allardyce as their new First Team Manager on a two and half year contract.

Chairman Steve Parish said: “We are delighted to be able to make an appointment so quickly and fortunate that someone of Sam’s calibre and experience was available”.

Allardyce will take charge of the team with immediate effect in time for the Boxing Day match against Watford.

Sam Allardyce:

“Recently the club has been very impressive in the way it’s grown, the fact that they’ve held the Premier League status over a number of years now and the fact that the fans, and the stadium when you’re there, create a very, very good atmosphere and a very passionate one.

“I hope we can bring some joy, particularly over Christmas and New Year, but also in the long-term and over the course of the season.

“The club seems to be very ambitious, certainly the chairman and the owners, they want to take the club in the right direction. I like the look of the squad and that’s probably the reason that I’m here: I feel the club can go forward from here and I hope I can help it go forward. It seems to be very ambitious.

“It’s the best league in the world, I don’t think anybody doubts that today when you see the quality of the Premier League – it’s a difficult league.

“With my experience I think I can help us get a few more results on the board over Christmas and New Year to make everybody feel a bit more comfortable.”

Crystal Palace fans comment on Sam Allardyce replacing Alan Pardew via their top message board Holmesdale.net:

‘Sam has such a badly flawed character, it pains me severely to know that he has been put in charge of a quality football squad that had a one of a kind honest, honorable manager who gave the whole organization a fabulous feel of top notch character and a wonderful example for other young people. It totally disgust me now.’

‘Pardew the role model setting an example. Never heard that before. Are you alright? You haven’t banged your head on the door frame have you?’

‘He’s done well with limited squads. Ours is better than what he inherited before. Cant wait for the clean sheets to arrive!’

‘I was neither Pardew in or out to be honest, but think a change can’t hurt. I don’t think any manager could mitigate the momentum entail amount of individual defensive errors we’ve seen recently. But there we are, players win you games, managers lose you games.’

‘So you didn’t want Pardew in? But you didn’t want him out either?

What the f*** did you want then? For him to shake it all about and do the hokey cokey.’

‘I hate him because he doesn’t know how to chew a piece of gum without showing his tonsils the whole time. Class he ain’t!’

‘Remember how Sunderland turned us over last year at Selhurst? Allardyce came with a plan and they followed it and won. Lets hope that he starts doing that for us.

That has to better than just waiting for the opposition to score like it has been this season.’

‘I don’t hate fat sam, I just dislike his managerial style. He can get his teams to defend well but he doesn’t really bring anything more. In my opinion, he is not really an upgrade on Pardew, he will improve our defense, but I don’t believe he’ll take us much higher in the league.’

‘With the nation overall being happy with his England appointment, getting the right man and all that, I struggle to understand why not here.

Yes he’s slippery but….best manager out there at the moment, anyone else and we’re resigned to the lower leagues for sure.’

‘I think he was the only option really. I don’t care how slippery he is. It doesn’t bother me at all. What does bother me is the style of football he has played at other clubs. I just want to be entertained. That’s what I pay my money for.’
