Newcastle United 0 West Brom 2

Newcastle’s young stars crumbled to yet another defeat on Saturday lunchtime, the NUFC Under 18s losing 2-0 to visitors West Bromwich Albion with a poor display from the home side.

After an opening run of four wins and a draw in the first five games of the season, the Newcastle United Under 18s have returned to the disappointing form of last season.

The last seven games have now seen six defeats, the only bright spot a 4-2 win over Middlesbrough.

Last season saw the Newcastle Academy side on the wrong side of some heavy scorelines and today’s defeat now means that 20 goals have been conceded in the last seven matches.

Today, West Brom had already hit the woodwork twice before doing so a third time after a quarter of an hour, the ball ending up in the net after rebounding off young Newcastle keeper Nathan Harker, Evan Pierce claiming the goal regardless for the visitors.

The visitors doubled the lead in the second half through Sameron Dool, leaving the likes of Dave Watson with some explaining to do to Rafa Benitez, as the form collapses so dramatically.

Also disappointing to see what looks another nasty injury for one of Newcastle’s young players. Rolando Aarons went down with an ACL long-term injury in midweek and today forward Mackenzie Heaney was treated on the pitch for over 10 minutes, before going off with what looked a bad shoulder injury.

Newcastle United:

Harker, Spooner, Wilson, Longstaff, Aziakonou, Cass, Gallacher, Allan, Lowther, Smith, Heaney (Goodridge 40)
