A lot of talk before the quarter-final was about Hull fans not wanting to go to the game and thousands of Newcastle supporters not being able to get in.

A pretty poor game was the outcome and anybody who wasn’t inside the Kcom stadium can count themselves lucky.

Hull fans though were triumphant at the end after their team won on penalties, though this didn’t appear to make many of them very gracious to Newcastle supporters.

The underlying resentment for many, appears to be the number of Newcastle supporters who managed to get into the home sections, despite threats of being ejected by the Hull management.

As for the actual football, there appears to be a general acceptance that Newcastle were marginally the better team but that counts for nothing when not converted into goals.

Hull fans comments on beating Newcastle and the visiting supporters, taken from top Hull supporter message board Not606:

‘I kinda feel sorry for the ‘almost rans’ of football

Filled with so much promise and haven’t much to show for it.

A  well supported club, Newcastle have won their fair share of silverware, I’m sure will be back in the big league next season, just hoping that we knock you out of the EFL cup tonight.’

‘Brilliant night last night, took great joy in taking the pi** out of all the Geordies in W9 when we got the equaliser.’

‘Been watching city since 1958, but the one moment that will live with me for the rest of my life is that of 3000 Geordie’s singing “we’re going to Wembley” after they went ahead, being stopped dead in there tracks by city as they equalized , poor bastards didn’t even have time to finish the chant.’

‘Did they not realise there is a semi-final two-legged home and away tie before Wembley?’

‘The three sat next to me must have had some mystical powers and were able to look into the future, for as soon as city equalized they got up and left.’

‘Nice to see the stereotypes were out in force, from pi**ed up geordies on the footpath from Argyle St to this fella who went without shirt until he was bundled out during their goal celebrations.

Grim first 90 minutes, but I realised just how much I’ve missed Jak’s personality on the pitch. Great game for him. And Lascelles should have had a red for the bottle kicking incident. Ref was terrible, inconsistent decisions and kept breaking up the play.’

‘Walking out of the ground last night talking to a Newcastle ‘fan’ from Beverley who was with a little lad of about 9 wearing a black and white scarf. The lad said can I take this scarf off now please dad ?’

‘Nobody has mentioned Diame’s refusal to celebrate his goal

To be honest I think most goal celebrations are embarrassing

Why can’t they just walk back to the other half like normal people?’

‘Diame did exactly that. A good old fashioned Corinthian spirit hand shake and get on with the game.’

‘Just got back. What a great way to win after listening to them ****ers all night.’

‘Dwight Gayle eh? Started the game a £15m striker. Ended it a £30k striker if he’s lucky.’

‘Let’s not let it gloss over though.

Newcastle had over 30 shots against us at home…

Think the cup must be ours.’

‘I was surprised by tonight’s result as Newcastle are the future of football.’

‘I expected us to get beat tonight, until I saw the team and that gave hope. Newcastle were below par, but so were we, all ten of us, eventuality!’

‘Can’t help but feel for the millions of geordie fans not being allowed in the Kcom… to watch them lose. Such a shame.’

‘Next season Newcastle will be a Premier League team and they’re going to be a PL team with decent strikers.

We’ve had three promotions to the PL now and still haven’t managed to get the promotion strikers to do anything in the PL.’

‘Also on the bright side, most of their players will be ****ed for their next game, and Diame will be ****ed for the season, never seen him move so much.

So that should hopefully reduce the possibility of them getting promotion too. Black n White ****e.’

‘Too much excitement, against a championship side? 39% possession. 12 shots compared to 32? Attendance? Lets keep our feet on the ground eh?’

‘No jump for joy that they battled, even when down to ten. We know what we are, so revel in the good bits and not wallow in Newcastle’s inability to turn us over. 32 shots, how many on target ..’

‘It was always gonna be tricky against a plucky lower league ****e of a club. It was their Cup Final & nothing more than a bit of a distraction for us although I’m glad we gave it a go.

We went about it properly, no Billy Big Bollocks from us. Did Newcastle learn nowt from Sheffield Weds? Self entitlement & having more fans wins you nowt.’

‘Ha ha have a nice trip home badgers!’

‘Even with the home end topped up with bar codes it still looks…well …empty.’

‘To think that we let Hayden slip through our fingers, and then paid £13m for Mason.’

‘I think of you counted fans of each club in the ground we probably are the away side.’

‘How many of our fans are wearing black tonight? looks to be thousands of them, so bizarre.’
