Neil Warnock thinks that Newcastle United have got the best squad in the Championship by a considerable difference.

However, the Cardiff boss claims that Rafa Benitez hasn’t got the best team.

Instead, Neil Warnock claims that it is Brighton and Chris Hughton who have got the best team currently on show in the second tier.

Newcastle put in one of their more average performances against Cardiff City on Saturday but if the United players had taken their chances, they would have been four or five up and the match won by half-time, rather than the actual two goal lead which was halved thanks to an often sloppy second half showing.

If Warnock looks beyond that one match, he would see that Newcastle had won all five games in October, compared to Brighton’s four wins and a draw.

However, that is just part of an eight match (all competitions) winning run for NUFC and indeed after the opening two games of the season, Newcastle United have an all competitions record of 15 wins, 1 draw and only 1 defeat.

Brighton may be Newcastle’s closest challengers, trailing three points behind, but worth pointing out that when the two teams met this season at St James Park, United were comfortable 2-0 winners.

Newcastle have more wins, more goals and a better goal difference than Brighton, with the only better statistic for the south coast club being the fact they have conceded less goals.

Whilst it is true that Rafa Benitez has used his squad this season, as the games have gone by, he has increasingly relied on the same core of players for each match.

The end of the season will decisively decide who actually has the best team/squad but at the moment what is clear, is that Newcastle & Brighton are better than the other 22 clubs/teams at this moment in time.

Neil Warnock speaking on Talksport:

“Newcastle have got the best squad by a mile, haven’t they.

“I think Brighton probably have a better team at the moment but they (Newcastle) have got the best squad.”
