Exclusive reports agent response to Newcastle transfer interest claims in defender

The weekend brought media reports that Newcastle had watched Wilfred Ndidi a number of times and were looking at making a January offer for the player.

The Chronicle said that Genk had indicated they would potentially consider offers in January for the centre-back, if they were well in excess of the £5m offer from Hamburg that was turned down in the summer.

Those claims have been followed up by in an ‘exclusive’ from All Nigeria Soccer.

They report that after contacting the 19 year old Nigerian international’s agent, he told them:

“Ndidi came for national team duties (Wilfred Ndidi came on as a sub in Nigeria’s World Cup 3-1 qualifier win on Saturday against Algeria) and no talks have taken place with Newcastle United, Watford or Spurs.

“Genk will definitely tell me if the interest is concrete.”

They have also been in touch with Willem Boogaerts, who is Racing Genk’s Brand and Communication Manager and he said:

“I have no information on the interest from Newcastle United, I know nothing about it.”

Having agreed a new four and a half year deal only in February, Genk are in a strong position if Newcastle or anybody else do come in for the promising defender.
