Former Sunderland striker Don Goodman believes that Newcastle are arguably the only the Championship club ‘capable of pulling away from the rest’.
Newcastle are on a seven match winning run in the Championship and after two defeats in their opening games, have now recorded 12 wins out of the last 14, with only one further defeat and a draw.
October saw a perfect five wins out of five and that has now earned Rafa Benitez Championship Manager of the month, ahead of Chris Hughton, Garry Monk and Simon Grayson.
Don Goodman summed up United’s domination last month, saying that they were ‘bulldozing every team that was unfortunate enough to have to take them on’.
The Chair of judges, George Burley, thinks Rafa has built a ‘formidable’ squad.
As for Rafa Benitez himself? The Newcastle bos was generous in his praise of others, saying that everybody at the club has worked hard and they deserve the award.
Former Sunderland striker and Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman:
“Rafa’s Newcastle team were unstoppable in October, bulldozing every team that was unfortunate enough to have to take them on.
“Eleven goals for and just two against tell the story of arguably the only team in this season’s Championship capable of pulling away from the rest.”
George Burley Chair of the Manager of the Month judging panel.
“Newcastle United were strong favourites for promotion before the season started and their 100 per cent record in October has taken them to the top of the Championship.
“Rafa has built a squad which is now looking very formidable and has all the qualities required to regain their place in the Premier League.”
“I’m really pleased. As a manager when you win a trophy it means that your staff, your players, the people who work in the club, they are working very hard.
“So I think they also deserve this award and it’s important for everyone here.”
