Daryl Horgan could be the next player to arrive at St James Park according to reports on Saturday morning.

The winger has been scouted by Newcastle United after catching Rafa Benitez’ eye with his Europa League exploits this season.

The owners of Manchester City have also sent representatives to watch him, with the player seen as a possible good fit for Melbourne City who they also own.

It would be some story if Daryl Horgan does end up making it in England, now 24 years old it is rare for a player to reach that age and still be playing in the Republic of Ireland and yet still hope to make it in the Premier League/Championship.

It would be a low risk signing for Newcastle though, with The Mail reporting that the player is out of contract after 8 December 2016 and so wouldn’t come with a transfer fee attached.

It is a summer league in Ireland and Horgan & Dundalk have just won it for the third year in a row, the winger also named the league’s player of the year this season.

It is exciting times for the player as Dundalk could make it a League and Cup double if they beat Cork City in the final this afternoon, whilst Daryl Horgan has also just been called up by Ireland for the first time for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Austria.

Rated the best player in Ireland, Daryl Horgan has impressed against the likes of AZ Alkmaar, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Zenit St Petersburg, scoring an excellent goal in Russia on Thursday.

Not often a late developer can make it at the higher levels but there is always an exception to the rule.
