The results of the Newcastle v Brentford player ratings.
A very decent first 49 minutes saw Newcastle three up before coasting to an eventual 3-1 win but who were the success stories and who were the passengers?
What did the Newcastle fans make of each player on the pitch?
No surprise to see Jonjo Shelvey (8.8) rated as top man by supporters, his passing sublime and Ian Holloway declaring he is the best player he’s ever seen in the Championship.
As for the rest, Shelvey is forming a lethal partnership with Dwight Gayle (8.1) and the striker was next highest thanks to his two goals.
The other stand out performer for fans was Ciaran Clark (8.0), showing once again as Newcastle’s best defender on the day.
The only other player to rate 7.0 or higher was Karl Darlow (7.3), the keeper not having a lot of shots to save but he did well with balls into the box and had no chance with the goal.
At the other end of the scale we have Ayoze Perez (5.7), getting a rare chance playing in the Mohamed Diame role behind Dwight Gayle but very much flattering to deceive – contributed very little.
Paul Dummett (6.1) once again struggled and got the next lowest score, whilst Jamaal Lascelles (6.3) was forced off through illness and hadn’t looked at his best.
The other five players were given average kind of marks, Jack Colback (6.6) having one of his better games this season, whilst Anita, Atsu and Gouffran all scored 6.8 and put in a shift.
