Sunday afternoon saw Alan Shearer putting his boots back on for a kick about with a host of former Newcastle teammates, including a certain Tino Asprilla.

The charity match at the Newcastle Falcons rugby ground was to raise funds for the Alan Shearer Foundation and Six thousand paying customers obliged.

Shearer was expected to remain in the dugout but instead he played the first 45 minutes and scored in a 2-2 draw, though he claims that this really is it…

Alan Shearer talking to the Chronicle:

“I got the old celebration out one more time but I don’t think you’ll be seeing that again.

“I’m pretty sure that’s me done with football, I thought I was only going to do 10 or 15 minutes but I felt alright and did 45.

“I got around the back and got the goal as well, which was obviously great for me.”

Newcastle fan and son of Alan, Will Shearer also enjoyed the occasion and has revealed that Tino Asprilla had a special present for him.
