Steve Bruce has confirmed that he’s been interviewed for the Aston Villa job.

The currently out of work manager says he hopes to hear whether he has been successful this coming week and says that everybody knows Villa are ‘one of the big clubs of this country’.

With only one win from 12 games all season and a televised game next Saturday against local rivals Wolves, you’d anticipate Villa being keen to appoint somebody early this week.

The most obvious promotion rivals pre-season looked to be fellow relegation clubs Norwich and Aston Villa, Norwich proving that to be the case and are now one point ahead of Newcastle in second, whilst Villa are 12 points behind in 19th.

From all the indications, former Mackem supremo Steve Bruce is looking odds-on favourite to get the job and Alan Shearer claimed it was a ‘no-brainer’ for Villa to appoint him.

So would it be a positive or negative for Newcastle United if the arrogant deluded windbag gets the job?

It certainly adds extra spice every additional annoying character who is added to the mix.

Steve Bruce speaking to Sky Sports:

“I’ve had a chat with them (Aston Villa) – that is as far as it’s gone.

“They did say they’re in a process, which you have to respect. I’m hoping that I hear something this week. It would be a terrific job.

“I am sure everybody would agree that Aston Villa are one of the big clubs of this country.

“It needs a little bit of turning round at the moment, but they’ve got a huge support and it’s a big, big club.

“Let’s hope I hear something.”
