As Newcastle United were busy going top of the Championship with a 2-0 win at Barnsley, loan player Sammy Ameobi was down in London making a rare start.

In only his fourth Championship first eleven since joining Bolton on loan, it took the younger Ameobi only three minutes to give the visitors the lead.

Picking the ball up in the middle of the pitch, Sammy Ameobi hit an unstoppable left footer from around 30 yards (watch it below) into the keeper’s top corner.

Bolton going on to win 2-0 and are now third top of League One, three points off the top.

It was Sammy’s first league goal for 14 months, as the winger/striker scored only the once in the Championship during a year om loan at Cardiff last season.

Turning 25 in May and desperate to get fixed up with a club before his Newcastle contract ends in June, last night’s goal gives Sammy Ameobi a grand total of five league strikes in his entire career so far – two for Newcastle and one at Middlesbrough completing the scoring.
