Rotherham 0 Newcastle 1 – Instant fan/writer reaction
Rotherham 0 Newcastle 1 – Saturday 1 October 3pm
We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle:
Jamie Smith:
“Good solid win.
“Never mind that it was only 1-0 versus bottom of the table, it just needed to be 3 points and a continuation of strong away form.
“I’m starting to get a bit worried that Huddersfield might actually be the real deal though, could complicate life at the top.”
Julio Taylor:
“Important win that shows Newcastle can fight in this league even when they struggle to dominate.
“Atsu’s pace was much needed but Gayle was isolated and didn’t have much impact.
“Diame is brilliantly assuming the Wijnaldum role..absent!”
Scott:
‘3 points is all that matters another games ticked off the list move on to the next.
Top of table looking tight.’
Nat Seaton:
“Phew!
“3 points in the bag and another away win.
“Great goal, and Atsu looked impressive.
“This smiling on our way home from away games; I could get used to it!”
Leazes Park Ender:
“Football is a results driven business so how can you argue with what Benitez and his players have achieved this week.
“I still have a fee issues with some of the selections and tinkering, instead of a settled side approach.
“That said, we are looking good and will live to fight another day.
“There will have been a lot of adrenalin from Wednesday’s comeback,so maybe 0-1 aways isnt too shabby.
“A win’s a win!”
Paul Lyon
“Champion that, felt it was important to follow up Wednesday’s late drama to keep the pressure on those above us.
“It wasn’t pretty but I would happily take winning 1-0 away from home all season!
“Great 3 points!”
Jamie Swan
“Another away win, back to a clean sheet and a filthy little one nil-er. After all the fur coat and nee knickers jazz fest on Wednesday against Norwich, I fancied it was going to be this way and Rafa will be loving it.
“A professional little mission, dressed in black and in and out like the SAS. Bosh, mission accomplished and back in the Chopper. Nil casualties.
“Talking slightly less bollocks, I was disappointed Yedlin didn’t start and a bit disappointed Diame did.
“We had to deal with plenty of corners and a couple of semi dodgy spells but remained strong.
“Think Clark and Lascelles are forming a good partnership. Nice balance.
“Not spectacular by any stretch of the imagination, though the winning goal by Atsu (bless you) was a pearler.
“Shame Huddersfield won and they lead us by the three points they grabbed at SJP. We will have to sort that at their place.
“I’d say enjoy the International break – but who does?”
