Rival boss says Newcastle won’t win the League

They might be odds on with the bookies and pundits & other managers lining up to predict Newcastle United as champions in May…but one person doesn’t think it will happen.

Garry Monk instead predicts that it will be Norwich City who will be crowned champions after 46 games.

The Leeds boss believes that because they have more or less the same squad that was at Carrow Road in the Premier League, it will be more than enough to ensure that they finish above Rafa Benitez and his players.

As a yoyo club in recent times, Norwich City have almost perfected the art of keeping it together and not panicking too much when relegated.

This summer the Canaries once again took a similar route, the total opposite of what Rafa Benitez was faced with.

Whilst many of Norwich’s players had experience of the second tier, Rafa Benitez made a conscious decision to bring in numerous players who were Championship hardened – the likes of Grant Hanley, Isaac Hayden, Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle and others, all recruited at St James Park.

A fifth win in a row for Newcastle and a home defeat for Norwich to Preston, means Newcastle now have a four point lead on Alex Neil’s team and three clear of Brighton at the top of the Championship.

Garry Monk speaking to BBC Radio Leeds:

“For me, Norwich City are the favourites to win this league.

“I know that Newcastle are up there as well but for me, Norwich have kept a lot of their squad which were with them in the Premier League, as well as adding some good players in the summer.

“They have a squad which has been together in a higher league.”
