Preston confirm ticket sales for Newcastle match beats 2009 modern day record
The Preston v Newcastle match is set to see the biggest league crowd at Deepdale for some considerable time.
Saturday morning has seen Preston North End confirm that they have now sold over twenty thousand tickets for today’s game.
Preston confirm that this is the biggest league attendance for a long long time, as it beats the 19,840 that turned up for the semi-finals of the Championship play-offs in May 2009, Preston drawing with Sheffield United and losing out on aggregate.
Deepdale had been redeveloped and the ground capacity significantly increased in the summer of 2008, leading to that near 20,000 crowd that saw them miss out on the chance of Premier League football.
In the FA Cup Preston drew Liverpool at home in that 2008/09 season and attracted 23,046 for a third round defeat.
Newcastle United meanwhile have confirmed that exactly 5,626 Newcastle fans are making the trip to Preston today – hope you enjoy it!
