A great Monday night for rising Newcastle star Callum Roberts.
United’s 19 year old winger made a first start for his country as England Under 20s defeated the USA 2-0.
Callum Roberts played the full match and Adam Armstrong made a second-half appearance from the bench.
Victory was achieved thanks to goals from Liverpool’s Ovie Ejaria and Chelsea’s Dominic Solanke.
Whilst the usual doubts and nonsense surround the senior team, in the up and coming younger sides there looks to be real promise for England.
In this Under 20s mini-tournament, England also defeated Holland 2-0 with Adam Armstrong scoring one of the goals and Callum Roberts making his first England appearance from the bench, then the Newcastle pair both sat out a 3-1 win over Germany.
At Under 21 level England are also thriving, having qualified for next year’s European Championships with a game to spare, Newcastle’s Freddie Woodman making his first appearance at that level as his clean sheet in a 1-0 away win over Kazakhstan saw England through.
Great to see young Newcastle players progressing and hopefully under Rafa Benitez we will see a more professional approach taken with looking after these potential stars of the future, than may have been the case previously at St James Park.
