When it comes to being man of the match, who have been Newcastle United’s star turns so far this season?

Every game, our interactive player ratings feature allows Newcastle supporters to rate every player who takes part in a match.

Those collective ratings from fans are then automatically updated to give us a pretty definitive mark out of 10 for every player, every match.

With thousands of supporters giving their input every game, it produces a very decent snapshot for every game.

Looking at all 13 games so far this season, these are the players who ended up man of the match in each one, their average score precedes each player:

6.4 Matt Ritchie – Fulham 1 Newcastle o

6.5 Matt Ritchie – Newcastle 1 Huddersfield 2

8.4 Matt Ritchie – Newcastle 4 Reading 1

7.7 Dwight Gayle – Bristol City 0 Newcastle 1

7.8 Ayoze Perez – Newcastle 2 Cheltenham 0 (League Cup)

8.1 Jonjo Shelvey – Newcastle 2 Brighton 0

8.0 Yoan Gouffran – Derby 0 Newcastle 2

9.6 Jonjo Shelvey – QPR 0 Newcastle 6

4.8 Matt Ritchie – Newcastle 0 Wolves 2

8.7 Matt Ritchie – Newcastle 2 Wolves 0 (League Cup)

7.5 DeAndre Yedlin – Aston Villa 1 Newcastle 1

8.9 Dwight GayleNewcastle 4 Norwich 3

7.8 Christian Atsu – Rotherham 0 Newcastle 1

As you can see, one name stands out way above any others, with Matt Ritchie picking up five man of the match awards, followed by Gayle and Shelvey with two each.

Interesting to note that it takes a lot for a defender/goalkeeper to be the real stand out star, DeAndre Yedlin the only one in the 13 matches and attacking is a big part of his game – the full-back providing the assist for Newcastle’s goal.

The players who score and create the goals are obviously the ones who catch the eye and get most recognition.

So despite solid defensive performances and clean sheets on the road at places such as Rotherham, Bristol City, Derby and QPR, it is the likes of Atsu, Gayle, Gouffran and Shelvey who get the top accolades, rather than Captain Jamaal Lascelles or anybody else at the back.

Interesting to see if anybody ever tops Jonjo Shelvey’s mark at QPR this season. Would be nice to think we will see some similar team/individual displays in the coming months, Shelvey scoring twice in that 6-0 hammering and pulling the strings from midfield all game.

Dwight Gayle is the player with the next highest man of the match score, receiving 8.9 for his hat-trick which enabled Newcastle to beat Norwich in that 4-3 cracker.

Leaderboard after 13 matches
