Intriguing comments from Preston fans after 6-0 defeat at Newcastle – Must Read

Preston fans arrived on Tyneside on the back of an unbeaten seven match run.

After beating Villa, Bournemouth, Norwich and Huddersfield, the thought of being lucky to escape with a six goal thrashing wouldn’t have been in the minds of too many of the travelling Preston fans.

So what did the visiting supporters make of a game where the two teams made 16 changes between them, only for Newcastle to go on and score six, hit the woodwork three times and have a shot count of 25 against 1?

Some very interesting comments on Newcastle United, Rafa Benitez, our players, where the club’s natural place is, plus of course what will now happen on Saturday when NUFC visit…Preston.

Comments taken from top Preston fans message board PNE-online.net:

‘Well, that’s lulled them into a false sense of security!’

‘The game was over when the team news came out and the way we set up. We had the chance to get into the quarter finals for the first ever time and he puts that team out.

I can understand we’re away at Newcastle and up against a really strong team, but for me that doesn’t show ambition. Poor from the manager.

A different game on Saturday. (Hopefully).’

‘Once this weekend is over and done with I`ll get back to my usual thoughts about Newcastle.

For me they are a massive club, up there with the likes of Liverpool etc, the difference being is that they’re a club that has genuine supporters rather than the plasticity of so many big clubs.

Rafa one of the best around.

I can’t stand Ashley and he’s a stain on a great club.’

‘I think Rafa is a bit overrated. He’d struggle not to do well with Newcastle’s millions in the championship.’

‘Newcastle are a massive club and should be up there with the likes of Spurs and Liverpool. And yet they have massively under achieved for years. Why? With gates like tonight’s and all the Premier League riches….where has all the money gone over the years?’

‘I don’t think it will make much difference to the crowd to be honest…

There will be 5,600 from Newcastle and no more than 13,000 from Preston – Total crowd approx 18,600.’

‘Can’t remember the last time I felt more ashamed at an away game, Grayson sh*t on us with that selection. No chance I’m attending Saturday after that.’

‘Bad night for all……..have a good moan for a bit then don’t dwell and move on to Saturday. Will be a good crowd as I think a lot have already made their minds up to attend. I said after Saturday that whatever happens in the 2 Newcastle games Simon Grayson deserves the Oct manager of the month.’

‘The Newcastle side that visits Deepdale this weekend will be close to the best side we’ve played since Keegan’s Fulham side visited plenty years ago, presenting a true test, and one we’re all excited to watch.

Soak it up, it’s going to be better than Crawley at home and, I wager, much better than many top flight matches (eg. Hull, Swansea, West Brom, Watford) could offer up.’

‘It is pointless 1400 North End fans traveling all that way, to watch a Geordie training season.

And lets face it, the line-up we put out tonight was one of the weakest we could possibly field, without blooding trainees.

Cup games should be for the fans. They should be exciting.’

‘We would rather support a team that hasn’t been bought on the back of slave labour.’

‘Lack of ambition and application from your club as a whole for years is why you are in the Championship when you get bigger crowds than clubs who see not qualifying for the Champions League as total failure.

Over the past 20 years, if you look at the size of crowds and investment….you’re the biggest failures in English football. ‘

‘One of their players cost more than our whole squad. That’s the difference. If they don’t win the league I’d be ashamed if I was a Newcastle fan.’

‘Browne is worth every penny of the £3,000 we paid for him…’

‘Our fans should be refunded their match tickets with the ‘team’ we put out.’

‘Give it a rest will you?! We’ve been well beaten by a far bigger club.

They have made changes too, just so happens that their ‘reserves’ are on far more money than our highest earners. There is a reason for that!’

‘If you consider Newcastle have 4 points more at this stage than they did when they went up with 102 points 7 seasons ago.

Mitrovic would be the starting striker for every other side in this League but has played about 200 minutes this season.

They aren’t just the best side they have an organisation with Rafa that’s hard for anyone to overcome.’

‘We came fully expecting to beat your perennial under-achievers. Mind you, if we were playing Sunderland I’d probably expect us to lose, especially as their fans are by far the most passionate in the north east.’

‘This game matters, but lets be realistic – Newcastle are quality. No matter what team we put out tonight they probably would have beaten us, yet Grayson gets criticism just because he knows what is best for his team, and which match is more important.’

‘Mitrovic literally walked around 3/4 players in our box.. What even is our defending today?!’

‘Get a grip chaps.

Newcastle are a Premiership team and club in every way.

Head and shoulders above any other club in the championship.

But we will have them on Saturday.’

‘I believe our changes on Saturday will strengthen our team more than their changes strengthen theirs. As it will be a nearly totally different team for us confidence shouldn’t be an issue.

If they have too much quality for us we’ll have to move on but I genuinely believe we can get a result.’
