Rotherham fans went into Saturday’s match with their team bottom of the league.

Interesting how they saw the game when reflecting afterwards, a lot of praise for their players and consensus being that it was best they’d played this season.

Christian Atsu and Jonjo Shelvey picked out for special mentions from their supporters.

Whilst the Newcastle fans also got a generally good write-up.

Comments taken from top Rotherham fans message board Millers Mad:

‘What a great bunch of fans, had a great time with them before and after the match, very friendly ….they do like a a drink and were very complimentary about how friendly Rotherham was and how they had enjoyed the day in our town.’

‘I’ve always had a soft spot for fact all the north east pal.

Cracking people.’

‘I don’t share your sentiments, due to a good kicking I took outside their ground in ’82.

Having said that, the ones I spoke to today were all sound blokes.’

‘Thought we had at least a sense of urgency about us today and were unlucky not to get a point. Think they must have been relieved in the end.

All in all a decent performance. We have set the standard we now need this every week.

Oh and the ref was crap AGAIN.’

‘I backed us to get hammered and I was wrong and I hold my hands up to that….

A class goal was the difference…as for Atsu, wow what a player!

This by far the best I’ve seen us play all season….Norwich up next …bring it on!’

‘We should have got a point from that, 100% foul on Frecklington before they scored. It’s called CHEATING.

Shelvey should be in Prem.’

‘We were fine until Adeyemi went off. He was stopping Shelvey from running the game. As soon as Vaulks came on, Shelvey had so much time and was picking passes for fun.’

‘Couldn’t disagree with this more. The trouble in the first half was Atsu being left on his own and Ball letting him get the first touch then not being able to catch him. free cross after free cross turned into “might as well have a shot then 2 which went in. Shelvey did not run the game and for me, Vaulks worked his socks off. Defended, went forward and even squared up to Shelvey at one point after taking two really bad challenges.

We were easily the better side in the second half…really unlucky not to get a point.’

‘I think Stubbs deserves credit today I thought his tactics were better with a more attacking intent.

Oh and the Newcastle fans in the pub after thought we weren’t a bad side and deserved a point.’

‘Decent game, really enjoyed today. Christian Atsu was given far too much space that first 45mins. Once we doubled up on him especially the second half we looked much more comfortable defensively.

Quality goal from Atsu, didn’t think Newcastle were the best side that`s been at NYS this season.

Thought Shelvey was outstanding for them, not only making 40yd passes but getting back to defend when needed.’
