A near perfect weekend for Newcastle United has been completed by Huddersfield Town.
Friday night saw both fifth and sixth placed teams, Bristol City and Birmingham, lose.
Then Saturday afternoon we had Newcastle’s 3-1 win over seventh placed Brentford, complemented by draws for both fourth placed Brighton and Reading who were eighth.
The only blot being Norwich keeping it going with a 3-1 win over Rotherham.
Rounding things off nicely on Sunday lunchtime are Huddersfield Town who were leading the table going into this weekend, a 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday has dropped them to third.
A 68th penalty from alleged Newcastle target in the summer, Fernando Forestieri, proving the difference and bringing about only the third defeat of the season for Huddersfield.
However, no hopes of writing off Huddersfield just yet, as they had 66% possession in today’s game and more shots (12) and corners (9) than the visitors.
This weekend’s Championship results for what were the top eight going into the weekend:
Huddersfield 0 Sheffield Wednesday 1
Brighton 2 Preston 2
Norwich 3 Rotherham 1
QPR 1 Reading 1
Cardiff 2 Bristol City 1
Nottingham Forest 3 Birmingham 1
So Sunday sees the Championship top eight looking like this now:
20 Bristol City
20 Sheff Wed
Midweek sees away games for all three clubs at the top.
On Tuesday Norwich travel to Fulham and Newcastle are at Barnsley, whilst Huddersfield play at Preston on Wednesday.
Barnsley have fallen away after a promising start and have lost four of their last five and drawn the other one. Losing 4-2 at home to Fulham yesterday, Adam Armstrong only coming on for the final 20 minutes.
Everything to play for in the next week and beyond.
