The great Alan Shearer has a match arranged this Sunday for charity and it will be great to see players who are still known as ‘The Entertainers’ again.
I have been a Toon fan since 1956 and have suffered the highs and lows that come with being a supporter of the famous Magpies.
The era that The Entertainers graced was the most enjoyable of my time watching the Toon, even taking into account the tremendous 1969 Fairs Cup win.
However, in my 61 years of watching my team, one player really stood out as the total soccer icon.
That player is Alan Shearer.
He demonstrated total commitment, great power, strength, leadership and an ability to score all types of goals, in all types of situations.
I regularly watch dvds of him scoring his many goals for Newcastle, still cheering out loud when some of them hit the net.
Perhaps his greatest quality continues to be demonstrated even now and that quality is loyalty. He was loyal to the Toon and gave everything in every match and today he shows loyalty and commitment to the region with his great charity work.
Whilst I have been privileged to see a number of really great players at my club, Big Al shades it as the total true legend on and off the field.
Thanks for everything Alan Shearer.
Trust in Rafa.
