Earlier today we asked NUFC fans who you would like to see like to see playing up front for Newcastle v Brentford.
There were seven options and listed below is the percentage of supporters who backed each player:
92% Dwight Gayle
74% Aleksandar Mitrovic
11% Daryl Murphy
10% Ayoze Perez
8% Christian Atsu
3% Yoan Gouffran
2% Mohamed Diame
Not much doubt is there..
No surprise to see top scorer Dwight Gayle (92%) at the head of affairs and once again Aleksandar Mitrovic (74%) is seemingly the only option supporters want to see making up that front two.
As we all know Rafa Benitez has preferred and persevered with the Mohamed Diame in behind Dwight Gayle tactic but as you can see by this voting, it has become progressively worse match by match.
Earlier this week Diame gave an impressively honest interview, admitting that his attacking form had been poor this season and he believed the only reason he was still hanging onto a place in the team was because of his workrate.
Obviously mobility isn’t exactly Mitrovic’ strong point and so for many/most supporters they would see it as sacrificing some mobility if dropping Diame, in return for a much bigger goal threat if partnering Mitrovic with Gayle.
Daryl Murphy was a distant third in the voting with 11% and on Friday lunchtime Rafa has confirmed that the knock he picked up when away with Ireland will rule him out against Brentford.
Ayoze Perez (10%) was paired with Mitrovic at QPR when United won 6-0 and fans didn’t fancy the idea either of Gouffran (3%) or Atsu (8%) playing behind/around Dwight Gayle.
All eyes on Rafa’s team sheet at 2pm tomorrow.
