Yesterday we asked United fans who you would like to see like to see playing up front in tomorrow’s Preston v Newcastle match.

There were seven options and listed below is the percentage of supporters who backed each player (in brackets are the totals when we asked the same question for the Brentford match two weeks ago):

89% (92% )Dwight Gayle

60% (74%) Aleksandar Mitrovic

27% (10%) Ayoze Perez

18% (2%) Mohamed Diame

3% (11%) Daryl Murphy

3% (3%) Yoan Gouffran

2%  (8%) Christian Atsu

No surprise to see top scorer Dwight Gayle (89%) at the head of affairs once again with a very similar total to last time, the only really natural goalscorer Newcastle have and my surprise is that as many as 11% wouldn’t automatically select him.

Below Newcastle’s top scorer, it gets a lot more interesting.

Whilst Aleksandar Mitrovic (60%) is still easily the second choice after Gayle, it is intriguing that his vote has actually dropped from 74%, despite scoring twice in a man of the match display on Tuesday night.

This can only be good news for Newcastle fans because the drop in the Mitrovic total is clearly down to supporters having more confidence in the other alternatives. Ayoze Perez is up to 27% (from 10%) and Mohamed Diame after his two goals against Preston is now getting 18% support, as opposed to an embarrassingly low 2%.

The likes of Gouffran (3%) and Atsu (2%) are ruled out as options through the middle with the other more obvious options available, whilst Daryl Murphy dropping from 11% to 3% is no surprise as injury has further prevented us getting a proper look at him.
