Rafa Benitez has been speaking on Monday lunchtime at his Barnsley press conference.

In his press conference, Rafa Benitez said that if Newcastle get beat at Barnsley or against any other team, it won’t be because of complacency.

As an example of that, the United boss says that when playing against bottom club Rotherham, it was obvious after five minutes that unless his players did the necessary hard work, they wouldn’t have won that game.

As for Tuesday night’s opponents, Rafa Benitez states that Barnsley are a ‘good team who play with high intensity and score a lot of goals’.

You definitely wouldn’t imagine a goalless draw will be the end result, with Newcastle scoring the most (25) goals in the Championship, with Barnsley (23) third best – the pair separated by league leaders Norwich with 24 goals so far.

In this Rafa Benitez Barnsley press conference, the Manager also confirmed that Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie should be fine to play tomorrow night if selected, whilst Rafa also told the media that Daryl Murphy is back in training after his injury picked up on international duty.

Rafa Benitez:

“When you play two games a week, it’s important to go into the next one winning, because you have more confidence.

“We have confidence in things we are doing at the moment, but Barnsley are a good team who play with high intensity and score a lot of goals.

“If we make mistakes, it won’t be because of complacency.

“I’m sure that Barnsley will push us and press with intensity, we have to be ready.

“We know we are not better than anyone unless we do the hard work – we realised this after five minutes against Rotherham.

“Karl is training well and Matz is training well – that competition is good for the team.

“They attack, they create chances and they score goals. It will not be easy.

“Jonjo is doing really well. I’m really pleased with him and his attitude. He has been working really hard.

“Daryl Murphy has completed a full training session and we’re really pleased with that.”
