Club’s media partner confirms Newcastle scouting presence at international match

Newcastle United will be represented at one of tonight’s international matches.

The club’s official media partner, The Mirror, have revealed that United are sending scouts to the Austria v Wales World Cup qualifier on Thursday night.

The players of potential interest are claimed to be a batch of the home country’s midfielders.

The home stars in the spotlight are believed to include:

Valentin Lazaro (Salzburg – Attacking midfielder)

Marcel Sabitzer (Leipzig – Attacking midfielder)

Zlatko Junuzovic (Werder Bremen – Midfielder)

Louis Schaub (Rapid Vienna – Attacking midfielder)

Rafa Benitez of course should have at least the £30m to play with if he chooses to spend it, with the deadline sale of Moussa Sissoko leaving that money as an approximate surplus on the summer trading.

Hopefully by January, Newcastle will be in a position where they are looking to buy players both to help the promotion run-in and in preparation for (hopefully) a return to the Premier League.

Recently the rumour mill suggested Newcastle would return to try and sign Alan Judge from Brentford once he has recovered fully from his long-term injury, the player set to be out of contract in June.

With the transfer activity of Rafa Benitez so far, he has shown he is more than willing to look abroad, as well as domestically – both in the Premier League and Championship.

What does look certain though is that there will be more transfers in and out at St James Park in January, to go with the 40+ deals that were conducted in the summer.

In the meantime, there are still a couple of weeks to go before the UAE transfer window ends, with hopes of still shifting Cheick Tiote in the short-term.
